I thought I would share a bit of what God has been working on in me this summer, in reference to my artwork.
Last summer, I had an end-of-summer exhibition that showed my landscape pieces I had been working on all that summer and the radical change Jesus put in my heart. I knew my art was a ministry, so I held the exhibition and wanted to reach out to a lot of people through my landscape art. God has been so faithful with that outreach!!
So now, this summer, God has even bigger plans (as always). I'm going to do another summer exhibition with outreach as it's purpose.
This summer's project is the traditional altarpiece done contemporary. My art style (under the direction of the Spirit) has changed dramatically to a contemporary, non-representational styling. One thing that I've realized over the year is that I yearn for my paintings to cause the viewer to transcend to an aesthetic-spiritual experience that mesmerizes them into a new personal level with God.
So, contemporary altarpieces. Ha!
Father God showed me these past few days that I have the character of Nehemiah -- the Jew who rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem after the armies of Babylon destroyed it. God told me that my wall -- my project of rebuilding -- was the arts' redemption. I am called to lead the rebuilding of the art world; to be a beacon of light to the darkness and shallowness of the current art world, and to redeem the arts back to Christ. Originally, the arts were made to be a worship to God and of His Beauty and Truth. Just like we were made to be immortal beings, so art was created to co-exist with God in harmony.
This summer portfolio is day 1 of my rebuilding of the wall of Jerusalem; day 1 of the redemption of the arts.
